I didn't change my Windows settings or install any application when this thing stopped working, so I'm really at a loss as what it could be. It acts as if the cable/device is dead - but it's not, I've tested it on my other laptop.įurthermore, the computer does make a sound when I plug it in, but it just doesn't show on Device Manager. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling every Port and USB on Device Manager - nothing. I tried Add New Hardware and installing the (new) Prolific drivers - nothing. If they are not installed automatically, contact the device manufacturer. Note If you trying to install a USB device class driver included in Windows, you do not need to download the driver. The Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port remains greyed out. Load the Microsoft-provided in-box driver ( Usbser.sys) for your communications and CDC control device. It's as if I mistakenly turned off my Comm Ports or When I plug it in, I don't see any changes in the Device Manager. I've been using my USB-to-Serial adapter for years until it suddenly stopped working yesterday.
